Go Green with eebeads.com!

We are green junkies at eebeads and have been since first opening our doors in 1996.  If you'd like to learn a bit about how we go green, read on!

• Smallest Size Zip Bag
We get some complaints about the small zip bags we use, but we're sticking to our guns.  Could you imagine how much plastic we'd be wasting if we put all our beads into 2x3" or larger bags when they would fit into a 1.5x1.5" bag?  We use 6 different sizes of bags for the most efficient bagging and least amount of plastic used.  Here's a tip to opening those small bags...hold the zipper between your index finger and thumb and then roll the zipper with your finger keeping your thumb still.  Bam!  Opens right up!

• Smallest Shipping Envelope.
We keep in stock 5 different size shipping envelopes in stock for again, the smallest size and less waste.  We also buy recycled kraft envelopes instead of the prettier white ones...bet you don't even notice the difference!

• We Reuse and Recycle Packing Material
All packing material we get from supplier's orders gets reused to pack your order or gets recycled.  I don't remember the last time we had to buy newsprint or peanuts.

• Paper Used Completely and Then Recycled
Every piece of paper in our warehouse gets printed front and back before it gets recycled.  Of course, if it has your personal information on it we don't reuse it...we shred it and then recycle the shreddings.  Once it's been completely used, it's recycled along with all cardboard we have. We also print your invoices on not only the front, but use the back of paper as well saving 1 sheet for a 2 page order.

• We Buy Wind Energy
A few years ago our power company gave us the option to buy wind energy and we couldn't help ourselves!  Now, part of all the energy we use at eebeads comes from the wind...breezingly simple!  We also have timed thermostats so the heat isn't running at all in the evenings and weekends when the shop is closed.  We're also nuts about turning off lights, fans and heaters when we're not in a room.

And that's about it.  I must admit I am the ogre around here when it comes to recycling and saving energy but the best compliment I heard from an employee was: "You've got me recycling everything at home now!"  Couldn't have asked for better words...being a tree hugger or going green is addicting.  I hope you've enjoyed reading about some of the ways we try to help the environment at eebeads.com!

Green wishes,
Carolyn and the crew of eebeads.com
