Winter Woods Necklace
Even the bare, brown branches of February can be beautiful when they’re set against the colors of a gorgeous winter sky. This playful necklace intermingles some of our newest vintage brass charms and pendants with topaz, turquoise, and aqua pressed glass and Czech fire polished crystals. The groundhog saw his shadow, so embrace these next six weeks before the flowers begin to bloom! The finished length of this necklace is about 22 inches.

Directions:
Step 1. The links of this Chain can be easily twisted opened and closed with your fingers. Break the two feet of Chain down into four pieces, with one measuring 8 links, one 10 links, one 26 links, and one 35 links (you will have some left over).

Step 2. Take the 35 link piece and bend open the last link on one end. Hook the Lobster Clasp onto it and close the link. Take a Head Pin and a Topaz Leaf. Thread the Leaf onto the Head Pin about ¼” down. Using Flat Nose Pliers, squeeze this ¼” and the other side of the Head Pin tightly so they both face away from the Leaf, then squeeze them together. Grasp right above this loop with Round Tip Pliers and wrap the rest of the Pin over and around the Pliers to form an “S” shape. Trim any excess with Side Cutters and repeat on two more Head Pins and Topaz Leaves.

Step 3. Open the last link on the other end of the 35 link piece of Chain and thread these three Topaz Leaf dangles onto it, followed by one side of the Buttercup Connector. Close the link. Take the 8 link piece of Chain and open one end, threading it through the opposite side of the Buttercup Connector. Close it and set this assembled grouping aside.

Step 4. Thread one Aqua Crystal, one Small Twist, and one Aqua Crystal onto a Head Pin. Form a simple loop above them by bending the Head Pin 90 degrees with Flat Nose Pliers, then curl into a tight loop with Round Nose Pliers and trim excess with Side Cutters. Take the 26 link piece of Chain and open the last link on one end. Thread this dangle onto it and close the link.

Step 5. Take a Head Pin and clip off the “head” with Side Cutters. Thread a Small Twist onto it and form simple loops on both sides of it, leaving one loop slightly open and trimming any excess on each. Open the last link on the other end of the 26 link piece of Chain and thread one of these loops onto it, then close the link. Thread the slightly opened loop through one hole of the Ridged Ring and close the loop. Repeat on the other side of the Ring with another Head Pin, Small Twist, and the 10 link piece of Chain. Set this assembled grouping aside.

Step 6. Assemble the Twig pendant: lay the Twig Bar flat in front of you with the slightly wider side to the left. Gently twist open a Jump Ring with Flat Nose Pliers and thread it through the last link of the Buttercup piece of Chain (on the unused end of the short length of Chain). Close the Jump Ring and thread it onto the Twig Bar so it is snug against the largest part of the Twig. Using Flat Nose Pliers, squeeze the Jump Ring tightly so it stays in place (the Jump Ring will likely twist open in the process; just squeeze until it’s snug).

Step 7. Take a Head Pin and thread an Aqua Crystal onto it. Form a simple loop directly above it, trimming any excess. Repeat this with two more Head Pins and Crystals. Twist open a Jump Ring and thread the Filigree Leaf onto it, followed by the three Crystal dangles and another Jump Ring. Close this Jump Ring and open a third, threading this through the second Jump Ring to create a three-Ring dangle. Ensure that all three Jump Rings are closed and slide the Jump Ring farthest from the Filigree Leaf onto the Twig Bar, about ¼” from the Chain. Squeeze this Jump Ring tight as in Step 6.

Step 8. Twist open a Jump Ring and thread the Tree of Life Pendant onto it. Close the Jump Ring and thread it onto the Twig about ¼” from the Filigree Leaf. Squeeze the Jump Ring tight. Take a Head Pin and string a Topaz Leaf onto it. Create an “S” dangle as in Step 2. Thread the top of this dangle through the beak end of the Swallow Charm before pinching it closed. Open a Jump Ring and thread it through the other end of the Swallow Charm. Close the Jump Ring and thread it onto the Twig about ¼” from the Tree of Life Pendant. Squeeze the Jump Ring tight. Take one more Jump Ring and open it, threading it through the last link of the piece of Chain containing the Ridged Ring (the end without the Crystal and Twist dangle). Thread this Jump Ring onto the Twig Bar about ¼” from the Swallow Charm and squeeze it tight to complete the necklace. Enjoy!
